Salaah Reminder ("the App") is a free mobile application that helps Muslims follow their local mosque's prayer timetable and receive prayer time notifications. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
1. Information We Collect
Location (optional)
The App may request access to your device's location solely to help you find nearby mosques. Location is used only while you are actively searching — it is never stored on our servers or shared with third parties. Location access is entirely optional; you can search for mosques by name without granting it.
Photos and Images (optional)
If you use the timetable scanning feature, photos you take or select are sent to Google Cloud Vision API for text extraction. Images are processed in real time and are not stored on our servers after processing. This feature is optional and requires your explicit action.
Mosque Submissions (optional)
If you submit a mosque or timetable URL, the information you provide (mosque name, address, website URL) is stored in our database so it can be verified and made available to other users. No personal information about you is collected as part of this submission.
Prayer Times
Prayer timetable data is stored locally on your device. We do not create user accounts or link prayer time preferences to any individual.
2. Information We Do Not Collect
- We do not require account registration
- We do not collect names, email addresses, or phone numbers
- We do not track your location over time
- We do not use advertising SDKs or analytics trackers
- We do not sell or share personal data with third parties
3. Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:
- Google Cloud Vision API — used for timetable image scanning (images not retained)
- Google Geocoding API — used to convert postcodes/addresses to coordinates
- Aladhan API — used to retrieve calculated prayer times for UK cities
4. Notifications
If you enable prayer time reminders, notifications are scheduled entirely on your device using local notifications. No data is sent to a server to deliver notifications.
5. Data Retention
All prayer time data and mosque preferences are stored locally on your device. You can remove this data at any time by uninstalling the App. Mosque submissions stored on our servers may be retained indefinitely as part of the public mosque directory.
6. Children's Privacy
The App does not knowingly collect any data from children under 13. It is designed for general use and contains no age-restricted content.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted at this URL with an updated date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
